Alex and on a wood swing at York college, trying to go higher still, and the swing is creaking its protest. Alex is the nicest, most laid back guy and here cranes his neck like a gopher to see what Marti is doing on the ground....click!

The broad Platte river flowing through York

Ralph, shy and quiet, but a real trooper when it comes to helping others pull on the road against the wind.

Ahhh...the comforts of home rediscovered in York college's rec room..Wifi & TV. Julia has a bandage on her right elbow since she bit the dust earlier...fortunately only roasties.

Johnny, our camp cryer, the greatest guy and much loved by all. Laid back, funny without trying to be, strong as an ox on the bike and always happy to help anyone. His "Let's do something beautiful!" in resounding tenor became our inspirational call to action.

Pulling into the brutal wind is Dale Dowry ("Dale the Dart") riding slowly to help Bill & Mary Dracht and Hank Zwaanstra negotiate this challenge. We had to ride into this wind for more than 50 miles, and strong gentlemen like these showed their compassionate hero hearts by pulling faithfully when needed.

Ahhh...nothing better than a nioe coffee break to rest from that strong headwind! Claire Elgesma is waiting for me to finish the Kodak moment so I can pull the group further.

The hills beyond...biting rollers and a headwind as well as temps of 38C and humidity like I couldn't believe near Fremont. The Saturday night Aug 2nd many struggled to sleep as it felt as if the matress and one's clothes were burning the skin. It was hard to breathe as well...suffocating humidity and heat in the tents even at 12pm. Welcome to the Mid west during the hottest time of the year!
