July 10th and 11th - Baker City to Huntington to Ontario, Idaho

We arrived in Ontario, Idaho, this morning in a real cheerful and playful spirit. The group I rode in today was just great and we had a fun time, taking pictures on the go of each other. It was a beautiful and shorter ride, with a strong tailwind and lots of fast downhills. We first climbed the dry sage bush covered mountains out of Huntington, then were welcomed by wavy golden wheat fields, corn fields and lots of onion fields, that are all irrigated by a carefully designed and graded flood system. Went by a lake/broad river and saw hundreds of pelicans. Saw lovely and friendly quarter horses again today. Turned around to have my pic taken with them and got slightly nipped in the back by one mischievous critter!
This town seems green, alive and prosperous, in contrast with Huntington that is steadily de-populating - down to <500.>The terrible heat of yesterday got to many people, and a kind encouraging word with a smile can do wonders to make them feel better and hopeful for the day. Our friendly, efficient and capable Kitchen ladies helped raise the moral with great food. Our brave mountaineers did arrive safely late last night. How they got off that mountain in the dark with that wind I don't know! The Lord brought them safely home.... more about the adventure minded youngsters later today. Yesterday we had no internet in the rural village and the wind was way too strong to put our dish up. So I saved the blog of the day and hope to add it soon. I'm steadily learning more about technical stuff from my smart buddies so I can also upload photos soon - just need to buy a flash drive, so I can use the fast internet connections in town libraries. What is really awesome,is to enjoy the cool air-conditioning for a while when it is so scorching outside. We are all getting in better shape by the day. ...even I am starting to lose some of that tenacious middle age spread!
Be sure that I think of everyone at Bethel and my family with kindest love and I do miss you all.
Thanks for your prayers!!
